I’m trying out a poetry prompt series for September, let’s see how it goes. I’ll put up a few scattered pieces.

#3 — Touching the shore

the ship bobs far away,
gently carried by waves
lapping at its surface.
wind buffets the white sails,
puffing them out almost comically.
it has almost completed the journey,
touching the shore,
when a small hand reaches out,
plucks the paper ship
from the rain river,
and runs helter-skelter,
laughs breaking the quiet
stillness that comes after a storm.
collapsing onto dewy grass,
she expertly steers her ship in the air,
moving her hands across
the rounded shapes of fluffy clouds.
a shout from the house,
and the vessel is abruptly capsized,
the captain has been called ashore,
into the warmth of her mother’s arms.
